The anticipation around the recent awards show has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
