Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
