Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial title after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from March of that year.

The win also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an better serve.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to force a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
